PHOTGRAPHY AT THE LODGE

Dean Bailey

As an internationally published photographer, with many publications, and also having a hand in the front cover of FIX YOUR DOG by Leon Towers himself. I have a huge passion for photography, and being able to combine this with love and passion I have for dogs is the most beautiful thing I could have hoped for in my life. It is an absolute pleasure to see an owners face when I delivered a photo of their pup.

In Photography

My love for photography started at a young age, on a paper round at 13 years old on a bitter cold autumn morning in October, with heavy fog hanging in the air an the orange glow of the old filament streetlights, showing the fine droplets of the mist  hanging in the air around me, my mountain bike was dripping with moisture and my face was numb. "just another 15 papers to go", counting down every delivery before heading home and getting ready for school. Peddling as fast as humanly possible, I pulled the back brake hard, and spinning the back wheel in what can only be called a controlled stop at 13. I leaned my bike against the confer and opened the gate to the front garden of my next delivery. I opened the gate and that's when I saw it! Every inch of the confers leading to the letterbox on each side of the path was covered in what I thought was snow.

It turned out it was thousands of perfectly formed cobwebs all covered with tiny droplets of water showing every single minute detail in white against the darkness of the confers lit only by the streetlight on the path in front of the gate.

I had no camera at that age, but the desperation to become a photographer never subsided.

That image has been ingrained in my mind for years and I'm still yet to capture that image with my camera, so I never leave home without it.

"You don't take a photograph, you make it,"

Ansel Adams

DEAN'S PUBLISHED WORKS

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, in itself, a living experience.”
