The power of dog
We don't give dogs the credit they deserve. Think of all the human diseases that dogs can detect, the power they have to completely
change a person's life, to provide comfort, to guide someone who is blind. They're like a higher power. They communicate in ways that we don't even understand, yet we think we're the higher power. For a dog to be able to talk to another dog without verbal language, as I see daily in my day care, is fascinating.
The Ancient Egyptians had the dog god, Anubis, who was the
'guide of souls. Dogs were given great respect and mummified when they died before being buried in family tombs. They understood that dogs had a special power. They saw Anubis as a cross-over with the spirits who could talk in two worlds. I have a tattoo of Anubis on my arm. I'm obsessed with Ancient Egypt! I believe that all animals have a spirit, a soul, feelings and emotions.
But that DOESN'T mean we should humanize them.
Join Leon & Dean as they meet individual dogs and owners who have changed and transformed each other’s lives. Real life stories of strength, resilience and hope. Dogs are humans’ best friends and not just that they have the power to change lives. Dogs have been used in and as therapy for over 100 years, but do we really understand the relationships and abilities of these dogs. Leon & Dean will spend time chatting to the owners and dogs finding out about their lives and needs and how the dogs have helped. They will give tips and help along the way that viewers will find useful to use in their own homes.
Leon’s empathy and understanding from his own background of being brought up in care and fostering over 12 children some with varying special needs, and Dean having suffered over 20 years of domestic abuse combined with their dog expertise makes them the ideal presenters for this show.
